Freedom
So I just wrote a short paper on all of the social psychological aspects involved in newspaper articles I read online about PROP 8 in California. To vote NO on Prop 8 means that you support legalizing gay marriage. The proposition did not get passed last week and there are many individuals out there who can not be with their significant others legally. We live in such a diverse and open country yet one of the most liberal states can’t seem to pass a proposition to legalize gay marriage. What seems to be wrong with this picture? The law prohibits individuals from receiving the same rights as everyone else, because of something they either chose or can’t control. There is not a significant amount of evidence supporting the theory that homosexuality in genetic, but there is more than there is not. Who cares who is with whom? In reality why can’t everyone just be happy with whomever they are happy with? Why can’t we just make life easier that way? That is something I never fully understood and still don’t to this very day. Life has its’ complications all the time, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t work through them and make the best out of them. I may be upset that the proposition is not going to allow gay marriage and that I know many people who are being affected by this, although at the same time it is bigger than me and I need to know to let it be what it is. That is a lesson I have had to learn the hard way many times. Sometimes you just need to let things be and live in and for the moment.
